Bible Food Daily Reading on Day 57

Grace and peace today as we begin our readings for day 57 of our Bible Food. You want to talk about fine dining everyday; here you are.

Jeremiah Chapter 34

This chapter begins with Jeremiah telling Zedekiah, the king of Judah, that he will not be killed by Nebuchadnezzar, but he will certainly go with him to Babylon. Zedekiah also made the people make a covenant to release their servants who were their brothers (Hebrews) in the 7th year as commanded by God, in the year of Jubilee; and they all agreed. However, afterwards they brought them right back to work and did not let them remain free.

This angered the Lord and made something for them to see as why He will scatter them around the world, and Jeremiah told them all these things.

Jeremiah chapter 35

Jeremiah is sent to the house of the Rechabites and he sits before them and tells them to drink wine. 6But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

They refused because they were told by their fathers never to drink it, children obeying their father. They were not to build houses, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have anything; but all their days they were to dwell in tents; in the land where ye be strangers. These guys were not full flesh children of Israel; but were strangers. Jeremiah spoke against Judah saying since these strangers can be discipline to keep their fathers instructions and Israel cannot listen to their Father, which is the Lord, He will not repent of the evil He was set to do against them.

Jeremiah 36

In the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the Lord spoke to Jeremiah commanding him to write everything he's heard over the years from the Lord, especially the evil pronounced against the inhabitants of Judah, and write it all in a book that they and perhaps future generations like us today will read about it and change our ways. That included the prophesy he wrote to other nations as well (verse 1-3).

Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, "I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord, so you go and read in the roll, which you have written from me, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house on the fasting day. And also read everything to them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities."

Baruch did as he was commanded and it caught the attention of some dignitaries and high up civilians and they brought him forth to have him read to other people, princes, and scribes. When they heard, they were scared and said they must tell this to the king. They also asked how he wrote all of it, and he replied Jeremiah spoke it and he wrote it. The Lord saw speaking to the people did not work, so the Lord had men write it down; books give more validity for some reason.

So they brought it to the king and had it read before him, and they got about 3 to 4 pages into it and the king through the into the fire that was burning in winter time, the fireplace. We see what he thought about it.

27Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

It's hard fighting against the Lord because He is winning and will win. If you burn a bible, another 300 will be printed. And the Lord told Jeremiah and Baruch to get right back on the job. This time they wrote was in the first book, but added specific pronouncements against Jehoiakim king of Judah.

Jeremiah chapter 37

Zedekiah attempted to get Egypt to help him against the Chaldeans; but Jeremiah was sent to tell him that Egypt will return to their own land and Babylon will come up and defeat you one on one.

15Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
16When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

Jeremiah was caught by men who basically accused him of treason for speaking prophesy against Judah and had him in the dungeon or prison and he remained there for a while. You just have to think about Jeremiah family life; all he is doing is spreading the word of the Lord and politicians and priest are giving him the run around.

Zedekiah, the king, had a secret meeting with Jeremiah, took him out of prison and asked him what prophesy does he have for him? Jeremiah told him that he'd be taken to Babylon. Zedekiah made his prison sentence lighter by giving him bread daily and did not send him back to the dungeon where he was before. Zedekiah didn't let him go; probably for fear of his own administration, plus someone would have tried to kill Jeremiah on the streets.

Jeremiah 38

1Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
2Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.

These words Jeremiah spoke had the princes want to have him killed for treason and weakening the men of war by deflating their spirits. So the princes put pressure on the king to have Jeremiah killed. Zedekiah did not stand up at all for Jeremiah and they put him back in the dungeon, with nothing to eat or drink. They sunk him down with chords and he was in mud.

6Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
7Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
8Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king saying,

He asked the king to allow Jeremiah to be taken out of the dungeon before he dies because there is nothing to eat or drink. An Ethiopian comes to the aid of an Israelite. Where are other Israelite brothers that believe? So Zedekiah tells him to get his men and help Jeremiah, and he does. Notice how Zedekiah is not ruling but others are ruling for him. If he had righteous men, he'd be straight but since he had wicked men he received wicked counsel.

They pulled up Jeremiah and put him back in the regular jail where he can eat bread and drink water. Then king Zedekiah met with him again secretly and wanted to know the real deal of what is to happen to Jerusalem. Jeremiah told him the same thing if you go peacefully to Babylon you will live and be okay and they will not burn the city. But if you rebel, you will be carried away, the city will be burned and your life will hang in doubt.

Zedekiah feared that his men will turn on him if he gave in peacefully, but Jeremiah said the Lord will have you just listen to Him through me. All we have to do in life is obey the Lord. Jeremiah was sent back to prison where he remained until the city was taken.

Jeremiah 39

1In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.
2And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up.

Here it comes; the end is near for Zedekiah and Jerusalem. When Zedekiah saw this, he fled from Babylon's king; but they caught him and brought him before Nebuchadnezzar as Jeremiah told him would happen. I wonder what is going though your mind at this time to see the prophesy fulfilled in your face.

Now here comes the judgment - 6Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah.
7Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.
8And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.

Nebuchadnezzar, who had made a deal with Zedekiah before the God of Israel, killed all his sons and all the men who told him to kill Jeremiah and run out the city, then he put Zedekiah's eyes out so that was the last thing he saw, and they burned the city and broke down the walls, carrying Zedekiah to Babylon. The Lord can be very rough when you cross Him.

Nebuchadnezzar left the poor of the city in the city, he had Jeremiah released and looked well after, and Jeremiah went and took care of Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, for helping him. There you have it, the ten tribes have been gone, and now Judah follows and won't return until Cyrus the Great allow Jews to return home. Samaria never returned; but the Jews were allowed to return.

Jeremiah chapter 40

Jeremiah is told he can stay in Jerusalem or he can go to Babylon, he'll be treated well there. He chose to stay in Jerusalem. Many Jews must have taken heed to Jeremiah's word because many escaped into neighboring countries such as Edom, Moab, and Ammon and when they heard that the king of Babylon left small number of Jews in the land, they returned to gather fruit and wine of the land.

Jeremiah 41

Now Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, was part of the royal seed and probably felt he should be governor over Gedaliah. So he raises up and kills Gedaliah and all his men. Eighty men come from Samaria to visit Gedaliah, and they kill 70 of them only keeping ten alive because they said they had minerals, food, and trade. This is an example at how rebellious the children of Israel can be. They do not pay attention to rule.

However, we had one named Johanan the son of Kareah, who ran Ishmael out of town and they worried about what they'd tell the Chaldeans of what happened to Gedaliah. Another thing to point out is that the Chaldeans and the Babylonions are one of the same. Nebuchadnezzar and his minions are gentiles, chaldean gentiles at that. They took over Bablyon, which is modern day Iraq. Babylon has always been a Shemetic land and is a prized land just as Israel. Prior to the Arabs having the land, the children of Ham occupied it during the days of Nimrod, who was an Ethiopian. So as people take over the world, the take over that land whether they come from Europe as Nebuchadnezzar did or they come from Africa as Nimrod did.

Jeremiah 42

The people of the remnant come to Jeremiah to ask him to ask the Lord what they should do about the death of Gedaliah and what the should do period. Jeremiah said he will go before the Lord and tell them all that He said.

5Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.
6Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

We heard this before when Moses came before the people. When you want something you'll agree to whatever is said before you; you see it with musicians that sign bad contracts giving away all their publishing, you see it with kids who say they'll clean up their room if they get to play outside; but once you get what you wanted, you don't feel like fulfilling your end. That is not right nor is it good.

Ten days later, the Lord visits Jeremiah and commands him to have the people remain in the land and He will take care of them and bring mercy to them, even upon the king of Babylon. However, if they fear and don't listen to the Lord and run off into Egypt, the Lord will bring the thing they fear into Egypt and consume them dead there.

17So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
19The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

The Lord plainly says, "you have been warned, not take heed!"

Jeremiah 43

As soon as Jeremiah gave them what the Lord said, a man named Azariah stood up and said Jeremiah is speaking falsely and that God has not spoken by him about not going into Egypt.

These men already had it in their mind that they would flee to Egypt; and just wanted the prophet to confirm it with them; but when he brought back different news, they rebelled. We do that these days; we already know we want to do a certain thing; but we'll ask our friend or family their advice, and hope they agree with us. If they do not support the thing we want to do; we may go ask another before we finally disregard the advice and get ourselves into trouble.

Just as we read in Jeremiah the tenth chapter about the vanity of the Christmas tree and the brutishness of the people that keep it and the paganism embedded in it and the idol worship of the tree, still people will ask a friend about it because in their mind they know they are not ready to do away with it. They will ask until the right person convinces them with their support that Jeremiah ten is not speaking about the Christmas tree and that it is just a celebration of the birth of Jesus; no harm there. This is how rebellion begins; when someone already knows they want to do something they shouldn't.

And Johanan the son of Kareah, took all the people remaining, including Jeremiah into the land of Egypt where God commanded not to go. Then Jeremiah received the word of the Lord that Nebuchadnezzar will take Egypt down and all the men of Judah that fled in there. I know Jeremiah could not have been a happy camper dealing with these people. Even Egypt is getting ready to be knocked down just for the Lord to get a few rebellious men of Israel.

This is why I use to worry about travelling on a flight with people; I never know who the Lord wants to get on that flight; so I only pray for mercy.

Jeremiah chapter 44

The Lord pronounces the evil against all the Jews who fled there; that they will be destroyed. The did not only disobey Jeremiah's prophesy to remain in the land; but they went there and worshiped the pagan gods of Egypt.

13For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

The people responded to Jeremiah saying, since we have stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and worshiping other gods, calamity has come on us and we have been in want of all things. But when they were dealing with the queen of heaven they have had no need of things. So they chose to ignore Jeremiah over material items. Are you like this today? A few dollars stop coming in and you decide to give up on Jesus? You lose your job and you stop reading the bible and go deal with the queen of heaven or the all not mighty dollar (well it is mighty to those who love it)?

Jeremiah had to remind these people it is because of them that the land is defiled and desolate. 23Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.

Israel broke the covenant with God by whoring after other gods. And then want to turn around and dis God because He has dissed them for their wickedness. The Lord will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

Jeremiah chapter 45

A short chapter with words against Baruch who complained that God added too much grief to his sorrow by destroying the land. The Lord says, that which I make I can destroy and it is no business of man. So since Baruch spoke this the Lord said he will be a prey in any country he is driven into. Remember the children of Israel in the wilderness, that complained to God, Moses, and Aaron. Complaining and telling God how to do things are not good moves at all. Refrain from them as best as you can.

Jeremiah 46

1The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles; Jeremiah is ready to speak against the Gentiles! This prophesy is of the end of the day when the Messiah returns to the earth for battle. The south armies of Ethiopia and the north and all the world will come across the Euphrates and battle and the Lord will deal with each and every one of them.

10For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

After this it returns to the battle of Babylon taking down Egypt. How is this a prophesy against the Gentiles if they are simply to take down Egypt? This is why we know up to verse 10 spoke about the latter day battles because that one is certainly against the Gentiles, and also it lands on the day of the Lord, which is His return, which is the 7th day.

However, Israel is not to be afraid... 28Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished. The Lord will correct them and bring them back to their land.

Jeremiah 47

1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza. Here the prophet prophesies against other neighboring countries. The bible was written entirely by men of Israel; but they spoke concerning things of all countries. We have to remember that they are our priest. They are to teach us, and tell us all that God commands and wants of us. Even in their captivity, we should be listening to what the children of Israel say, if we do not know one personally, read their bible objectively and do what their fathers didn't so calamity doesn't come upon you. And what their fathers did not do was keep the commandments.

This concludes our reading for today. Thank you for joining today and I pray God gives all of us understanding in His word in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
