Bible Food Day 5

Here in day 5 we are reading Exodus chapter 1 up to Exodus 15.

This starts off years after Joseph died and a new king of Egypt arose that did not know Joseph and feared that the Hebrews would be stronger than Egypt because the Hebrews had kids like rabbits.  So the Pharaoh ordered to have the male new babies killed.

In some time a Levite family had a child who was very good and they floated him up the Nile right into the Pharaoh's daughters home and she had compassion and kept the baby for herself, knowing it was a Hebrew.  For her to think she can keep a Hebrew baby while she was a dark skinned Egyptian still amazes me.  Pharaoh's daughter name the child Moses, and she had Moses mother help her raise Moses.  Thus Moses knew he was and Israelite all his life.

Moses defended his people and it is ultimately what got him ran out of Egypt.  He ran into Midian and ended up marrying an Ethiopian woman before the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush commanding Moses to return to Egypt and deliver the children of Israel.  Moses however, put up a bit of a fight because he was not convinced the people would listen to him that God appeared to him.

Moses was told to tell Pharaoh that Israel is the Lord's first born; and he should let them go.  But Pharaoh resisted and knew not the God of Moses and made the work even harder than before.  Thus the children of Israel got upset with Moses and Moses asked the Lord, "what happened to the plan?"  And the Lord addressed His people giving Moses His name Jehovah or Yahweh, which the Lord had not shared with Abraham, Isaac, and Israel.

The Lord made Moses a God unto Pharaoh and made Aaron, Moses brother, his prophet.  God gave Moses a lot of power and high power.  They began to do the plagues in order to soften Pharaoh's heart.

The first plague was to turn the rivers and the waters in Egypt into blood (this was after Moses rod was turned into a snake that consumed the rod that were turned into snakes by the Egyptians).  The Egyptians were able to turn water into blood; yet Pharaoh did not listen.

The second plague was to have the land smitten with frogs.  The Lord would bring frogs into every chamber of the land; on people, in the kitchen, etc.  The Egyptian magicians were able to bring frogs too.  Pharaoh asked Moses to remove the frogs; but he was only faking.

The third plague was lice and dust all over the land of Egypt and the magicians of Egypt confessed that this is the finger of God.  Pharaoh did not listen still.

The fourth plague was to have a swarm of flies cover the land; and this time the Lord did not put this plague on the children of Israel. This time Pharaoh told them to leave, but he wanted them to go serve their God and return.  Still Pharaoh would not let the people go.

The fifth plague from the Lord was to kill the cattle and live stock of the Egyptians.

The sixth plague was boil was put upon the animals of the Egyptians and the people; but not upon Israel.

The seventh plague was a great hail from the Lord.  This destroyed the land because it was hail mixed with fire, never seen in Egypt.  Still the Pharaoh would not listen to Moses.

The eighth plague were locust brought in to eat up the trees and plants that the hail and fire missed.  At this point Egypt was basically destroyed.

The ninth plague was a thick darkness, so dark that none of the Egyptians could move from their seat.  Pharaoh told them to leave; but not with all the substance.  Moses was told not to come back to see the Pharaoh.

The tenth plague would be the great plague to let the children of Israel go; this would be the death of the first born son of the Egyptians; but also anyone who did not put the blood of the Lamb on their door post.  The Lord now orders the months making this month the beginning of months to the children of Israel and institutes the Passover.

Finally, Pharaoh let them go out of Egypt.  But he had one more change of heart when he thought the children of Israel were trapped by the Red Sea.  Then the Lord split the sea and the children of Israel went through on dry ground and the Egyptians will follow in and the Lord will close the sea on them.  And thus was done and Pharaoh of surety knew that this was the hand of the Almighty Lord.

This reading ends with Moses and the children of Israel singing a song of praise unto the Lord and with dance.  The waters were bitter and they complained and the Lord put one more miracle in that a tree was placed into the water to make it sweet.  Wow is the Lord powerful and wondrous, and merciful.  This was an exciting reading.  Praise God for Bible Food and see you tomorrow.
