Day 40 Bible Food - the Psalms

We're reading the Psalms today, from chapter 25 to 45.  These are prayers to the Lord mixed with a lot of prophesy, primarily concerning JESUS, and His future Kingdom and things that took place while He was on the earth some 2000 years ago.  Let's begin...

Psalm 25

 ¹Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
 ²O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. The common theme of the prayer asking the Lord to help; but more important is the trust that is put on the Lord.  You must trust God, trust His laws, His commandments, and everything.  If you do not know how to trust the Lord, ask Him to show you His ways, and lead you in His truth, which is His Word.

 ⁵Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

The Lord is merciful to those who keep His covenant; just as a parent is merciful to a child who messes up once in a while on accident.  But those who move on purpose to sin, no mercy is given.  

¹⁴The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

This is indeed a secret to fear the Lord because you have to know how powerful Jesus is before you can fear Him to have wisdom enough to love and serve Him.  ²⁰O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
²²Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.  

Verse 20 speaks to us about putting your trust in the Lord; and verse twenty-two the writer ask the Lord to redeem Israel from all their troubles.  In David's day Israel had rarely any problems.  David subdued all His enemies if you remember, his problems were in his own house for his sin against the Lord.  So David knew about the troubles Israel would be in as a nation down the road.  Prophetic verse there...

Psalm 26

 ¹Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

Trusting in the Lord will make it very difficult to slide off course of His ways.

Psalm 27 is a prayer also in seeking comfort in God and in trusting Him.  One thing we should all desire of the LORD, to constantly seek after; is that we may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of our lives, and to see the beauty of the LORD, even going to ask Him of His ways in His Temple.  If that is granted to me; I'm very happy.

This chapter also tells that when our own dear parents forsake us, the Lord will then scoop us up; we must just wait on Him and not give up turning into vain persons.

⁷The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.  

It is all over the book of Psalm, including Psalm 28 here, that the writer trust in the Lord.  Also we see in verse 8 that the Lord God is the saving strength of His anointed.  Jesus did not raise Himself from the dead; the Father raised Him so to show the people His power and if they do His will; they will get the same thing, eternal life at the end of the age.

In Psalm 29 we learn of the power in the Lord's voice, so we give praise unto His name.  ¹⁰The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.  Flood or waters in the bible often represents peoples, so the Lord will sit as King forever over the people, over the people of the earth.

Psalm 30
⁴Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
 ⁵For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

The Lord loves singing and music; and you notice that when you're in a good mood you will catch yourself singing.  There is a reason for that; singing brings joy and inspires joyful times.  We can sing even in the tough times we live in because we know the Lord is angry with the harshness going on in the earth; but He is only angry for a moment, we must remember that He is in favor of life.  He wants that all should live happily for an eternity; so it may be rough now; but joy comes in the morning.

Psalm 31

 ¹In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.  It is impossible to be ashamed when you put your trust in the God of Heaven and Earth.  ⁶I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.  ¹⁴But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

Do not trust man; do not trust your belongings, and do not trust yourself.  We are only to trust in God.  That does not mean sit on your bed and trust that He will do everything for you.  Instead, read this Bible and trust that He will perform all that is in it.

Psalm 32

 ¹Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.  If this happens for you, you know you will be in the Lord's kingdom.  So you must give mercy to others to attain mercy from God so that your sins are covered by the blood of Jesus.  As long as we confess our sins, and stop trying to hide them, we have a good chance at getting them covered.  Then you'd have to trust in the Lord to believe and do that.  ¹⁰Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Psalm 33

Here goes the praising of God with music.  Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.  Sing unto the Lord a new song; played skilfully with a loud noise.  We can't just get anybody to sing unto the Lord, if you have a talented voice, then sing loud unto our God.

⁴For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

If the world of the Lord is right and done in truth, the Exodus chapter 20 is still right and is still truth to keep.  Let us know else, what is right and true; that by the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He spoke it and we'll find out soon that someone or thing carried it out.  An architect would say let there be a two story building; and he will draw it out and the builders will go complete what the architect spoke by the breath of his mouth.

⁸Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.  ⁹For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.


The thoughts of the Lord's mind is in all generations; that means in every generation the Lord has someone who knows what He wants; just as we are reading and know what the Lord wants.

If you ever wonder why no violence or trouble comes around you and you fear the Lord, it is because an angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear God.  ⁷The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them (Psalm 34).  It will also deliver you.  People say things like; his life was spared because of a guardian angel.  This is true, but it was not a relative who died that is watching over  you; it is an angel of the Lord staying with you.  You must fear God though and keep His Word.

²²The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.  None that trust in the Lord will be lost or desolate.  That is very comforting to me; but you must trust in His Laws and His ways, and walk in them and He will do the rest.

In Psalm 35, Jesus prays to the Father for His servants to be spared from the wicked, and He also prays for the destruction of wicked persons.

Psalm 36

 ¹The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.  It starts with not fearing God to not believing God exist until your wickedness is exceedingly harsh and God gets wind of it and has to take action against you.  Stop yourself if you ever stop fearing God and go into prayer to ask for mercy.

Psalm 37 I like this chapter because it can be hard to keep the Lord's commandments and struggle through life and then turn and watch a guy like Larry King marry 10 different wives or some rich guy swindle money from the poor and live successfully.  It can be something that turns into enviousness.  But God tells us through His Word not to be envious against sinners.  Soon enough they will be cut down to the ground like grass.

 ²For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
 ³Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.  Instead we are to continue to trust in the Lord and still do good in face of all the bad around us and let the Lord feed us until the perfect day.  The other day, I saw I could have stole a diamond out of a store and I was ready to do so; because I felt they are rich and I am poor, they get away with it; why can't I?

But you must put that type of thinking aside and continue to trust God and stay far from evil and breaking His commandments.

 ⁸Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
 ⁹For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
¹¹But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Don't get angry or be a person of short temper, be wise and wait on the Lord and inherit the earth.  Won't it be good and fun to one day say, "hey, the earth is mines."  It will be if we follow the Lord until the end of the age.

¹⁶A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

You could have a studio apartment in a building with a community toilet and washroom and be righteous, and you have more than the riches of a man who owns 40 mansions, drives 40 cars, two jets, and owns an island.  Isn't that something?  I told you there is some really good stuff in this bible here.

²⁵I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.  David in his life, young and old, never saw a righteous man forsaken and never saw his kids begging for food.  I have to say, I've never seen it either.  Someone will always take care of the righteous.

³¹The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.  Job said that the Word of God was more important than his necessary food; so how can the righteous who keeps the law of God in his mind ever go hungry?

Psalm 38 is a prayer not to be forsaken by the Lord.  Keep His commandments and you will not be forsaken, even if it looks like you are being forsaken as Jesus was on the cross when He shouted, "my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me."

In Psalm 39, the author asked to have his days measured so he knows when he is going to die.  Then realizes that the days of men on the earth is all together vanity.  It is almost pointless, especially if you do not serve God truthfully and with understanding.  Do not be filled with zeal and serve God wrong and die as Uzza did for touch the Ark of God.  Learn right and do it.

Psalm 40  You have family that mock you, they sin, they are always against you but you hold strong and keep in the Lord and trust Him.  ⁴Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Blessed are you that trust in the Lord and don't turn to those people who are proud and that turn to lies such as the laws of God are no more.  That is not true so you have to read the bible for yourself to realize that is a false statement.

⁶Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
 ⁷Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

The Lord never wanted any animal to be sacrificed; all He ever wanted was for man, made in His image, to keep obey His voice and keep His Word.  Then Jesus came to be the sin offering Himself, written in the volume of this book, we have read about Him (Jesus Christ) throughout the Old Testament.

Psalm 41

 ¹Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  When you have time think about the poor and not just on how not to be one as one famous preacher use to say.  Consider them for the Lord will deliver you in trouble because He knows you have a heart concerned for your fellow brother who is less fortunate that yourself.  You may not be able to help the poor; but consider them and righteously pray for their help.

⁹Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.  This verse is just one of the many things that happened to Jesus when He was on the earth.  We know his familiar friend was Judas (Judah); who Jesus trusted and ate with, even dipping into his food with Jesus; but he turned against Jesus.  But read this chapter and you will see someone of the things the gospel writers didn't write.

Jesus wrote it in Psalms before it even happened and in detail.  All I can say is: ¹³Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.

Psalm 42 & 43 is a prayer to God to earnestly wait on Him.  The author sought after God as a man deprived of drink seeks after water.  It is a need to have the Lord in our lives.

Psalm 44

 ¹We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
⁴Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.  

David is writing that we know that the Lord took Israel out of Egypt and we know He knocked off the nations that were in the land of Canaan, so God is the King of Israel and it is He who will deliver Jacob.  We rarely hear people praising God for taking them out of Egypt.  I would hope the Jewish people were more vocal in their thankfulness to God for taking them out of Egypt; but I don't hear much on this.

¹¹Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.  Wait a second here; when David wrote this he was settled in Jerusalem; what does he mean God has scattered them among the nations?  David was a king but he was also a prophet.  Jesus was speaking to him and David was busy writing.  ¹²Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

The Lord did not even make profit on casting the Israelites away, He gave them away for nothing.  ¹³Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
 ¹⁴Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
 ¹⁵My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
 ¹⁶For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. 

We can remember reading these curses in Deuteronomy chapter 28.  It did not happen in David's day but David sure knew it was coming down the road.
Search out and seek God diligently because He knows the secrets of our mind.  You know, the things you don't share with no one but yourself; He already knows it, so clean up what needs to be cleaned up in your mind.

Psalm 45

 ¹My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.  Here is David the musician.  I've heard rap artist copy this verse in their songs.

However, this is a conversation between the two beings in the Godhead:
 ⁶Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
 ⁷Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
 ⁸All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

The Father is telling Jesus that His throne is forever, and because He loved righteousness and hated evil, "God, thy God," has anointed you with oil of gladness above your fellows.  So we see Jesus is higher than all the sons of men who will become God at the end of the age because of the great work He did in the earth.  And verse 8 lets us know that He will smell great doing it.

¹⁷I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever. 

Notice the people of Israel, their name is gone among men, but the name of Jesus God allowed to be remembered throughout all generations.  Praise the Lord.

Well readers, here we go again reading the Word of God, the bible on this land mark day where we have only 60 days left to complete this excellent goal and task of reading the bible in 90 days with understanding.

We are going to begin today's reading in 1 Chronicles chapter 10.  Some of today's reading will be a rehash of the kings stories from another point of view.  Let us begin...

1 Chronicles Chapter 10

This chapter begins with the telling of the death of king Saul and his house, along with Jonathan; how Saul committed suicide to avoid being tortured by the Philistines who shot and wounded him.  And we are reminded that Saul died for his sins against the Lord; for not keeping His Word; and seeking a familiar spirit.  If God would kill a great king in Israel for seeking a psychic; then He would kill today for doing that also.

1 Chronicles 11

 ¹Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. Right away the people moved to make David their king when they heard of the tidings of Saul.  David had Joab knock off the Jebusites who were inhabiting Jebus, as they call it, which is Jerusalem and David got greater and greater because the Lord God was with him.  The chapter ends with the listing of David's mighty men.

1 Chronicles 12

All the tribes of Israel came up peaceably to make David their king and captain.  Men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one mind to make David king.

Moreover there was joy in Israel to make David king over them.


In 1st Chronicles chapter 13; David brings up all the tribes and the Levites and proposes them to bring up the ark of our God to Jerusalem because they didn't in Saul's days.  And it is a good idea to everyone to do so.  So they went up to Kirjathjearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up the ark of God the LORD, that dwells between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.  
And as we read in kings, they put it on a cart and when the calf stumbled the ark began to fall and Uzza put his hand to catch it; a good thing, the right thing, but the Lord killed him on the spot for touching the Ark.  Imagine that; dancing, singing, rejoicing for the Ark and all the sudden boom, a death.  David was shoot and all Israel; and they left the Ark to figure out what to do.

1 Chronicles 14

Other nations began to contact David and send gifts so he took this that God confirmed and established him as king of Israel.  He took more wives and had more children.  The Philistines were not thrilled about David and came up to kill him.  ¹⁰And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

David forgot to do this when he went up to get the Ark of the Covenant, he didn't inquire of the the Lord.  ¹⁴Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

 ¹⁵And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.  God even gave David war strategies and went out and fought for David.  The sounds on the top of the mulberry trees were the sound of wind but it was angels and the Lord going out to battle.  That is the best feeling in the world when God is fighting for you.  Now as other nations heard about this; they began to fear Israel under David's leadership.  God brought that fear upon them.

1 Chronicles 15

After David asked the Lord, then David said, nobody should carry the ark of God except the Levites: it is the Levites who the LORD has chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister Him at all times.  And they gathered to go get the Ark of God correctly.  Do you know what this taught me?  That no matter how much zeal and emotion we have in serving God; we cannot do things any way we want.  We must do it the way it was set up to be done.

God will not permit you if He commands you cut the grass and you don't; but instead clean the entire house making it spic and span.  He will not be pleased with that.  We must do things His way and do them the right way.

¹³For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

 ¹⁴So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.

 ¹⁵And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.

Because they didn't do this is due order, Uzza had to die.  Now they brought the Ark of God to Jerusalem with singing, dancing, and rejoicing; but Michal, Saul's daughter, was not happy to see David dancing as he was because she thought he was doing it to get women; but David danced before God because he was happy to bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem.

1 Chronicles 16

They brought the Ark of God; and feasted, David gave every family a piece of meat, bread, and gallon of wine.  It was a good time; I wish I was there.  David appointed the Levites, priests and singers, who would take care of the Ark of God as commanded in the writings of Moses daily, and David wrote and prayed a psalm to the people; in fact it was Psalm 48.  David then sent all the people home and returned to bless his house too.

1 Chronicles 17

In chapter 17 here David is sitting thinking he lives in a nice house but the Ark of God sat in a tent and that didn't make sense to him.  Some of us know about that; we have a great big house, but the church we go to is in a storefront or is just a shabby building. Your mind would be moved to do something about that if you pondered on it deeply as David did.  So he decides to build a Temple for the Lord.  Nathan tells him to do it because God is with you on so many things; but it still requires us to ask God before we do a thing.

God had David not build a Temple; in fact God did things for David and never asked David to do this.  The Lord goes into future prophesy telling David when he dies God will raise him a seed that will build His Temple.

 ¹²He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
 ¹³I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
 ¹⁴But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

We would think this is Solomon since he built the Temple right?  But Solomon was not considered a son to God; and when Solomon had all those strange women; God rent the kingdom from his son; so His mercy was taken from him; and most of all Solomon died and there are no accounts of him raising from the dead yet; so who's kingdom is going to be established forever, came from the seed of David, and this being was known as the son of God?  Jesus!  
This is reading the bible with understanding.  David thanked God in prayer concerning His word.

Chapter 18

The LORD preserved David wherever he went.  Whatever he did prospered because God is showing us that David's Jerusalem is what Jesus Jerusalem will be; one kingdom other nations cannot fight against.  ¹⁴So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

1 Chronicles 19

Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son Hanun took over after him as the customs are.  David sent messengers to console Hanun because David liked his father.  But he thought they came to spy and take over the land; so he shamed them by shaving their beards and cutting holes in the buttocks area of their garment (like the artist known as prince) and sent them away.

David heard this and had them wait in Jericho until their beards grew back in before they returned home; and David went to Ammon to handle business.  Ammon hired the Syrians to help them; but when the smoke cleared David took them both down leaving nothing and making Ammon servants to Israel:

¹⁹And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

1 Chronicles 20

Chapter twenty just tells of wars between Philistines where Israel defeated tall giant type men, showing that the Lord was truly with them.

1 Chronicles 21

 ¹And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.  When we read this in second Samuel chapter 24; it accounted that the Lord stood up against Israel; so who was it the Lord or Satan that caused David to be provoked to number Israel?  It was the Lord; but he sent Satan.  When evil needs to be done; the Lord sends an evil spirit (as was done to kill Ahab when a lying spirit was sent to his prophets).  

When the Lord sees us today sinning against Him; then all of the sudden drama comes into our lives; an evil spirit came in to punish us so we can correct our way to the Lord.  So Satan stood up and had David number Israel.  This caused 70,000 people to be killed in Israel.  

¹⁴So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
¹⁵And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it:...

What angel is known as the destroyer?  Satan!  The Lord showed David the angel as he was destroying the city; and David feared because he saw that angel's sword.  However, David and the priest made sacrifices for the Lord to hold off His anger.

1 Chronicles 22

David wants the House of the Lord to be great so that all nations revere it and come unto it.  So he prepares to build it while he's alive and instructs Solomon on it as well.

¹⁰He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

Although David thought the Lord was speaking of Solomon regarding the Temple; verse 10 clearly separates it from Solomon because Solomon as I mentioned before was not known as the son of God.  David finishes telling Solomon to be strong in building the Temple and tells all Israel to support him in this great feat.

1 Chronicles 23

When David was old, he made Solomon his son king over Israel, gathering all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites to the anointing ceremony.  This concludes today's milestone reading.  Let's continue and push forward and finish this goal.  Thank you for joining peace in Jesus name.

Bible Food 2 Samuel - Day 23

Good morning we are moving along; I hope this has become a habit to you.

We are starting in 2 Samuel 13
In this chapter Amnon, David's son wanted Tamar, his half sister, who was also the sister to Absalom.  And he wanted her desperately; so he laid a trap to lay with her.  And when she refused; he raped her and sent her away.
Absalom and Tamar had the same mother; while Amnon had a different mother; so Absalom waited two years and killed Amnon for raping his sister.  

We can't help but remember what Nathan the prophet sentenced against David for sinning against the Lord by laying with Uriah the Hittites wife.  Now all this evil is in the house of David.

 ³⁹And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

Absalom fled; and David was still worried sick about him as a father would a son; but he was comforted in Amnon being dead because at least he knew he was dead.

 In 2 Samuel chapter 14
Joab didn't want Absalom to get away with this and wanted David to summon him back to Jerusalem; and Joab had a lady do all this talking and fibbing to David and finally David ordered Absalom to return to Jerusalem; but did not want to see Absalom.

 ²³So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 15

 ¹And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.  Since David would not come see Absalom; Absalom slowly plotted to take the kingdom of Israel from David.  
He started being pleasing to the people and being a politician.  Thus he ended up stealing the hearts of the men of Israel.  So David left Jerusalem for fear Absalom would raise up and kill the kings.

¹⁶And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.

2 Samuel 16

As the king fled a man named Shimei out of Saul's family, who was still very bitter about the kingdom going to David, came and shouted at David and cursed him.

This guy did what is done in Iraq today how people throw rocks at US military men; he cast stones at David and all David's men.  I could tell he was emotional and crazy; because he threw rocks at David's mighty men, who are proven killers.

Shimei called David a "bloody man" and Abishai the son of Zeruiah ask David the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head."  If David would have done so; it would not correct anything but look how easy David's men said that and they would have done it for David.

David was logical and reasonable; and said if my son wants to kill me (speaking of Absalom), what of this man from the house of Saul?  Meanwhile, another prophecy spoken against David came to pass as Absalom slept with all his father's concubines who were left behind.

²²So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

2 Samuel 17

Now Ahithophel was giving the counsel to Absalom and they began to get better counsel so this guy went and got his house in order and killed himself.  He did this because he knew that if Absalom didn't kill him later, David and his men surely would.  So he settled with a suicide.  


In 2 Samuel Chapter 18: Joab convinces David to fight back and stop running away from Absalom; and David agreed; but warned his men not to kill his son but to bring him back alive.  

They battled and 20,000 men died and as Absalom got his head caught in the boughs of a great oak tree while riding his mule.

 ¹⁰And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.

The man did not kill the kings son; but Joab did putting three arrows in his heart while he was alive caught in the tree.  Joab is a vengeful man, and will disobey orders to get revenge.  

He did it was Abner (who killed his brother), and he did it here with Absalom (who burned his field).  If you cannot control your emotions; it will come back and haunt you as all of this is haunting David who did not control his lustful emotions for Uriah the Hittites wife.  In addition to that Joab had ten young men smote Absalom to make sure he was dead.

When this was reported to the king, he wept for his son like any loving parent would for their child who is not.

³³And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

2 Samuel 19

 ¹And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.
⁶In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

Here Joab was making a valid point.  If the king keeps weeping for his son; all his servants will start to look at David weird saying, "this the son that was trying to kill you and us, and probably the rest of your family, why are you crying for him?"

So he advised David to stop and to carry on the administration.  And David did so.

2 Samuel 20

Another Benjamite was running across Israel telling people not to deal with David.  We have to imagine the children of Benjamin, where Saul was from, probably did not like David because they feel he stole the kingdom.

So a wise woman of the Benjamites got all the people to deal with Sheba, the man who did not want to deal with David, to shut him up because Joab and David's men were going to deal with that town.  So they brought the man out and had him killed, giving his head to Joab.

David did return to Jerusalem and had to put those ten concubines into widowhood because of the Levite law that once a woman is gone into by another man by means of rape or adultery, the husband cannot go back unto her.

2 Samuel 21: Here in chapter 21 there was a famine 3 years in Jerusalem and David went to the Lord to see why and found out it was because Saul killed the Gibeonites in the land.  This was not to be done because the league Joshua made with them.  

The Lord does not let people break vows or covenants.

The Gibeonites demanded 7 of Saul's sons be hanged; and this had to be done to stop the famine.  And they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

2 Samuel 22

 ¹And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
 ²And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

David gives thanks and praises the Lord.  This same prayer and song is found in Psalm chapter 18; thus letting us know that David did write many of the Psalms.  This concludes today's reading.  Join again tomorrow.
